State warns public of scams targeting real estate investors in Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The state is warning the public of a recent real estate scam.
Officials said crooks are sending out letters, posing as government entities, targeting individuals and businesses with false information to lure them to invest in non-existent properties.
A recent report said scammers impersonated actor Jason Momoa to lure funds.
“It has come to my attention that scammers are using my name to promote fake real estate opportunities,” Momoa said, in a statement. “I want to assure everyone that I am not associated with these schemes and have no partnership with any real estate firms.”
The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs asks the public to report these scams by calling (808) 587-4272.
